CALABASHED is a project fronted by Joshua Idehen and Alabaster DePlume. Joshua and Alabaster were introduced by mutual friend and collaborator Stephen Bass (Moshi Moshi Records) and subsequently met at renowned Jazz/folk night ‘Peach’ at the Total Refreshment Centre, just before it closed as a live venue. They spent a year trading demos as they worked on other projects: Joshua with critically acclaimed bands Benin City, Hugh and featuring with Sons of Kemet, the Comet Is Coming, and Portugal the Man, amongst others, while Alabaster released and toured ‘The Corner Of A Sphere’ (on Lost Map Records), touring extensively across Europe and running his own Worldwide FM show. In addition to Joshuas voice and Alabasters Saxafone and guitar the group expands to include James Howard(guitar), Marysia Zofia Osuchowska(Harp), Donna Thompson(Drums) and Raimund Wong(Tapes), planting their flag somewhere between Alice Coltrane’s blissful psychedelia, Daedalus‘ playful melancholy and the London nu jazz scene’s daring adventurism. Their first show was at the Boiler Room X Total Refreshment sold out night at The Barbican. Their debut EP, produced by Danalogue (The Comet Is Coming, Snapped Ankles) will be released this spring 2020 through Purple City Souffle.
